Abstract: Knot theory is a branch of topology in mathematics where research requires top-notch sophisticated tools from pure mathematics. Surprisingly, this subject has found many applications in other sciences such as Physics, Chemistry and Biology. This talk primarily focuses on understanding the structure of proteins with the help of knot theory. Effort has been made to explain the problems related to protein structure in a language mathematicians can understand and are inspired to answer some of the questions in such an important field.
