Why should we learn logic?

Prof. Ramanujam is a retired professor of Mathematics at IMSC (Institute of Mathematical Sciences), Chennai. His research interests are mathematical logic, automata theory, security theory and game theory. He also has a particular interest in mathematics and science education. He was awarded the Indira Gandhi prize for popularizing science in 2020.

In this talk, Prof. Ramanujam talks about reasoning and logic. Reasoning is fundamental to all disciplines, especially mathematics, yet logic is not a formal part of most curricula. Learning some mathematical logic may be helpful for almost all of us, illustrating the idea with some puzzles and examples. We also point to the deep connection between logic and computation.
