Various Avatars of Winding Numbers

Abstract: The concept of winding number appears in a variety of branches of mathematics like Complex Analysis, Topology, Functional Analysis, etc. In this lecture, we propose to take a survey of the situations it appears and explain the underlying importance of the notion.

About the Speaker: Prof. Vinayak Sholapurkar was the Head of Center for Postgraduate Studies in Mathematics, SP College, Pune. He was the National Coordinator of Mathematical Olympiad in India from 2013-16, is the Chief coordinator of Madhava Mathematics competition and a Governing body member of Bhaskaracharya Pratishthana, Pune.
