Good readers think critically about what they are reading and are able to generate questions to extend their understanding.

Encourage students to ask questions as they read, and work actively to answer those questions.  Ask them to adjust their thinking as they read. Their overarching questions should be “What is the main idea of the text? What is the author trying to convey?”
