HiPaw Lab in Shenzhen and Puurfect Soul in Hong Kong were both established before 2019. They both experienced three years of economic depression brought about by the epidemic, but the fate of the two stores after the epidemic was very different. HiPaw Lab is still thriving, while Puurfect Soul is about to close down.
During the COVID-19 period, although the overall economic environment was not good due to the policy of restricting travel, HiPaw Lab was good at using online social media platforms for promotion. This enhanced the brand’s exposure and customer engagement. Daily updates and active operations on multiple platforms enable it to attract fans and maintain business growth even when offline traffic is limited.
Puurfect Soul, on the other hand, faced a devastating blow. Its geographical location was already remote, and the ban on cross-regional travel during the pandemic greatly reduced customer traffic. At the same time, the store was operated by only one person and lacked online promotion. Coupled with economic pressures such as high rents, it was difficult for it to maintain daily expenses and eventually had to face bankruptcy.
