Throughout the twists and turns of the windy roads that I have traveled throughout David Lynch's filmography, I have encountered new discoveries of several connecting elements that he has strategically placed to build links between the films. With lots of time, dedication, and close attention, I intend to discover the most prominent themes, objects, and character personas that Lynch incorporates into his work.
Progress So Far
So far in my research journey, I have fully completed my first watch of all of my films. Although it took longer than I expected, I was very thorough while recording all of the connecting elements that I saw, which has made my second watch process a lot easier. I have also been able to find distinct connecting factors that represent clear meanings in all of the films. Already thinking ahead about their representations in the films, this will hopefully make my data analysis process a lot faster and easier as well.
Challenges and Problem Solving
The most challenging factor throughout my entire project so far has been time. I have struggled a lot with utilizing as much time as possible to watch these films, and underestimating the amount of time that each film would take. Twin Peaks took me the longest to get through, even though it was one of my favorite films that I had watched. It is significantly longer than any of the other movies, since its a show, and I didn't fully realize how long it would take to finish it while planning out my schedule. While watching my films, I have had to watch more movies per week than I planned so that I can finish all of my films in time. In almost all of my spare time, I have been determined to finishing my second watch before March so that I can accurately do data analysis.
Data Highlights
Some of the most significant data that I have discovered throughout the data collection process has been the most prominent connection elements between the films. After my first watch, I looked through my data and found these top five elements: fire, red curtains, electricity, evil/higher beings, and road shots. Some of these are shown in my data recorded for Twin Peaks: The Return in the picture below. Although these were the most, there were so many other pathways that I could have gone down when examining connection elements. I went into my data collection with some knowledge of the things I would see, but there were a multitude of components that I could have focused on.

Reflection
The process of data collection so far has been going extremely well, as I have gathered lots of data which will make my data analysis significantly better and easier in the long run. Despite the large amount of time that this project has taken so far, my project will be thorough and I will accurately be able to analyze these connection elements throughout David Lynch's films. This project has taught me a lot about the beauty and true impact that David Lynch has on a multitude of audiences, including myself. Without this project, I most likely wouldn't have discovered all of these beautiful films that have influenced my life in ways that are indescribable. Likewise, I have learned a lot about myself as a researcher along my data collection journey. I am a very organized researcher and really like having a plan for when to start and complete tasks, as well as a place to record all of my thoughts and data. Also, due to the large amount of elements that I had recorded during my first watch, I realized that I am a very open minded researcher that sees things in multiple perspectives. Overall, this project has taught me a lot about David Lynch and the beauty of his films as well as many qualities about my own self.
