Final Reflection
I learned an immense amount about my topic over this year! I began not really knowing a lot about David Lynch, and now that I have done lots of research on him and his films, I am a big fan. With this content, I will continue to share his legacy with the world and possibly examine more of these films to look at the connection elements and see if they still pertain.
From the final presentation, oral defense, and academic paper, I learned a ton of different research skills that I had not developed prior to this class. From the presentation, I gained the skills of giving a long and formal presentation, along with the many preparation skills that come along with it! A lot of time and effort went into all of these, and I will continue to utilize the things I learned as I go into the next chapter of my life.
Throughout my research process, I realized that I am a hands-on researcher and really enjoy conducting research! Although it takes a long time, I love starting the tedious process from the bare minimum and growing it into something unique and new. I will definitely carry the lessons of my research through college and my career, hopefully conducting more research in the future!
Acknowledgements
I want to give a big thank you to all of my teachers, family, and friends that have supported me through this year long research journey! Thank you to Mr. McBride and Mrs. Dobos for guiding me through the research process and being the best mentors that I could have asked for! I couldn't have ever done any of this without you! Another thank you to both of my parents for supporting me throughout the entire process, your support means the world to me!
Abstract:
This study looks at a selection of David Lynch films and the connecting elements that he provides in each of them to bridge his films together. I hypothesized that there would be noticeable connections between each of these films, and that Lynch's usage of these connection elements would present a correlation over time. Using a semiology and correlational based methodology, I examined 6 films and 1 series, recording time stamps, noticeable connection elements that are involved in each of the films, and a brief explanation of them. After data analysis, it was found that there were 5 prominent connection elements: Fire, Electricity, Red Curtains, Evil/Higher Beings, and Road Shots. These definitely presented connections between all of his films that I examined, but did not have a noticeable connection over time.

Future Plans
For the future, I will be attending the University of California at San Diego to study marine biology! I am so excited to continue my academic career here, where I also plan to participate in research!
