After numerous hours of research, I have come to the conclusion that if you take away the factor of being electric or gas, the top gas manufacturer in the United States is more desirable the the top EV manufacturer. Below are table charts that I personally crafted to fit the most desirable aspects of a car according to consumer wants from Consumerreports.org
On the Electric Vehicle side, the model 3 ends up with 17 out of the 27 aspects. The model S has 18 out of 27 and the model X has 16 out of 27. This equates out to an average of 17/27 and a total of 51 checks.
However, according to GM (General Motors), the Cadillac Escalade has 19 out of 27 aspects, the Chevrolet Silverado also has 19 out of 17 aspects and the Buick Encore has 16 out of the 27 aspects. This equates to an average of 18 and a total of 54.
These results create a discussion about what people generally look for in a car. Also it compares the two vehicles together and shows what consumer desire more OTHER then the fact that the vehicle is electriv or gas.
-Electric Vehicles have had a large surge in demand.
-California will ban the sales of new gas powered cars.
-Electric Vehicles require less maintenance.
-Overtime EVs can result in being cheaper than a gas car.
Above is some context of this project. Showing why people are looking into electric vehicles more. Also the government has a major impact on cars because of the ban that is being implemented on the production of gas cars.
If you could revisit your research process, what would you do differently and why?
I would look more deeply into the concept cars of more gas car manufactures and EV manufacurers. I really only looked at one vehicle which was the Cadillac Lyriq and that was a vehicle that was already coming out this year. I would also try and find other car companies to expand my research on.
Think back to the initial curiosity that sparked your inquiry. What other curiosities do you have and how has this process prepared you to explore them?
I initially came up with the idea to pursue this topic because I wanted to look more into cars. I then thought of what is trending and what is being affected by this trend. I have now become more curiuous of what is after EV cars. Is there a MORE efficient vehicle going to be made? Hydorgen powered cars?
How does your research contribute to the larger academic conversation? What are the implications? Connect back to why people should care.
My research can be extremely important in the near future. With the future ban on production of gas cars, knowing what consumers like in EV cars is very important. Also knowing what the effects of major production on EV cars towards gas car manufacturing is key. This way gas car manufacturers are more likely to properly transition to hybrid or fully electric cars. The implications of this project is that gas car manufacturers must transition to making hybrid or fully electric cars because although currently the statistics show that gas cars have more desireable features, EV manufacturers are also making thier vehicles with those featurers which will soon cause the demand of gas cars to decrease. People should care about this topic because there are some gas car companies that will deny the fact that they should transition to hybrid or electric so this may end of making the company go out of business. This will leave people unemployed and will increase the unemployment rate.
