Summer Research
After taking the AP Seminar course, I received the “Summer Speed Dating Annotated Bibliography.” The assignment forced me to think of numerous topics ranging from morality without religion to Korean reunification. Even though I only ended up using part of one of my sources, this activity really opened my mind up to the possibilities of research.
Deciding/Narrowing a Topic
When AP Research began, I initially selected the topics “Morality without Religion,” “Representation in media/film,” and “Korean Reunification.” Two of the topics were eliminated because:
“Korean Reunification”-there wasn’t a super clear way to research the topic.
“Morality without Religion”-was a more researchable topic but had no clear path and methodology.
Finally, the topic of “Representation in media/film” was a super broad topic but greatly interested me. And since I’m invested and enjoy the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), I decided to narrow “Representation in media/film” to “Representation in the MCU.”
Significance
The MCU is currently one of the most powerful and successful film universes. The MCU has complete domination over the box office, grossing about $23.7 billion dollars over 27 films. In the top 20 highest grossing movies at the box office, six of them are MCU movies. This means that a lot of people are watching these movies and may subconsciously affect them.
My Research (as it currently stands)
In my research, I will be investigating the MCU characters of T’Challa, Okoye, Natasha Romanov, Carol Danvers, and Tony Stark. Each character will then be evaluated on different bases and the quantified values will undergo statistical analysis to determine the differences between the characters.
