The gothic genre haunts over the modern narrative, is that true? Taking a deep dive into gothic literature from the period of gothic revival this research aims to answer the question: How has the presentation of psychological horror within the gothic genre changed from classic gothic novels to their modern film translations? With movies being the best source of modern media and generally having the most correlation to novels, 8 books and 8 movies were selected, coded, and analyzed to see if there was a significant difference to be found between the source material and their modern counterparts. Using 6 themes that relate to both psychological horror and gothic, I saught out where the similarities and differences lied in a qualitative matter, in hopes of seeing whether there truly is an evident difference in the translation of these novels to film.
