Discrimination is when you harm someone's rights, nationality, class, caste, religion, belief, sex, gender, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, sex characteristics, age, or health. You might not even realize it when you are treating Someone unfairly but you are and you might try and change that and that’s what we want this generation doing, changing the future to make it more fair and equal.
Hi, I am Leah. I am 11 years old. My hobbies are soccer, ringette, art, and organizing things. I go to Prairie Waters. I chose this topic because I think it is unfair for people to be judged and mistreated just because of their race/skin color, gender or culture. Everyone is human no matter what they look like. Their looks shouldn't affect their future. I am excited about exhibition so I can present my feeling to others and spread awareness. I am also happy to be a part of something so big and meet new people and learn more about what it means to be human. I am nervous that we might not get our project done in time because a lot of the time I am slow in projects because I overthink things too much. I am also sorta nervous to present but not that much.
Hi! My name is Britni. I am 11 years old, turning 12 this year, and I go to Prairie Waters Elementary in Chestermere Alberta Canada. My hobbies are playing ringette, painting, and playing outside. I chose this topic because I don't get why different races and gender make a difference in the world. something that excites me about doing exhibition this year is that I get to work on my presentation skills and something that gets me nervous is doing my presentation.
What is exhibition?
Prairie Waters Elementary School is one of only 11 schools in Alberta that is an authorized International Baccalaureate (IB) World School offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP). One of the unique features of this program is the PYP Exhibition. In our students’ final year at Prairie Waters (grade 6), they engage in an 6-8 week, in-depth collaborative inquiry into an issue or problem of their own selection.
The IB explains the purpose of the PYP Exhibition:
to provide students with an opportunity to demonstrate independence and responsibility for their own learning
to provide students with an opportunity to explore multiple perspectives on an issue
for students to synthesize and apply their learning of previous years and to reflect upon their journey through the PYP
to provide an authentic process for assessing student understanding
to demonstrate how students can take action as a result of their learning
to unite the students, teachers, parents and other members of the community in a collaborative experience
to celebrate the transition of learners from primary to middle/secondary education
