Multiplication and Division Problems in Everyday Situations Students are solving multiplication and division word problems. Encourage your child to help you solve multiplication and division situations that come up in your daily activities.

We have 3 more hours to drive on our trip. There are 60 minutes in each hour. How many more minutes are we going to drive?

We are bringing orange slices for the soccer players on your team. We want to give each player on your team 4 orange slices.

There are 12 players on your team. How many orange slices do we need? We need 56 forks for the party. The forks come in packages of 8. How many packages do we need to buy?

Learning Division Facts Students are expected to know all of the division facts by the end of third grade. You can help your child practice by using the Division Cards they have prepared at school.

How Did You Solve That? Ask your child to tell you about how he or she is multiplying and dividing. Because these strategies may be unfamiliar to you, listen carefully to your child’s explanation; you might even try to do a problem or two using the new procedure.
