$15 CPR Certification
$20 Virginia Board of Pharmacy Technician Trainee Registration (not due until Pharmacy Technician II)
$30 Uniform (black scrubs per pair) At least two pairs are strongly suggested and are not needed until Pharmacy Technician II
$20 HOSA Dues (Due before October 1st of each school year). HOSA is the student organization membership is voluntary.
BACKGROUND CHECKS
All students are required to have background checks prior to experiential learning.
Illicit drug use, criminal background checks, and immunization status may prevent future employment as a pharmacy technician. Externship sites, employers, and State Boards of Pharmacy have regulations about drug use, criminal backgrounds, and immunization status.
CERTIFICATION
In order to sit for the PTCB certification exam students must successfully complete all outlined requirements of Pharmacy Technician I and II. Which includes a minimum grade point average of a "C" during the entire course. Successful completion of all simulated learning and externship hours.
RPS will issue students that have successfully completed the program a voucher for testing. Testing must take place during the outlined voucher window. Expired or forfeited vouchers will not be reissued.
The passing scaled score for the is 1,400. The range of possible scores based on the exam outline is 1,000 to 1,600.

REGISTRATION AND LICENSURE
National:
PTCB- will issue the national certification after the examination if passed. Once certification is issued you must renew your certification every 2 years.
State:
In order to register with the state of Virginia as a pharmacy technician you must first pass the PTCB or equivalent exam and pay the registration fees. Virginia no longer offers a state level exam. After registration is completed it must be renewed annually before 12/31.
