By first grade, children's curiosity begins to grow into a desire to investigate and understand. First graders ask thoughtful questions, notice patterns, make observations, and begin to wonder not only what is happening, but why and how. They are eager to test their ideas, explore possibilities, and share what they discover. First graders are developing the habits of scientists: asking questions, making observations, gathering evidence, and using their discoveries to make sense of the world around them.
