This is the Higgins boat at the Greenup County War Memorial. It was used for landing troops on land from water. It was only in production from 1942-1945.
The Higgins landing craft is such an important invention. It was used during what most would consider the attack that won World War II. They were used during D- Day when the troops landed on the shores to defeat the Germans. There were over 23,000 boats produced during the war.
