The Russell County High School Warrior Wrestling Team is a high school team composed of kids from 7TH - 12TH Grade.

AHSAA rules state that Middle School and Junior High students flowing into one high school are eligible to participate in varsity wrestling for the high school.  This allows for students in 7TH and 8TH at Russell County Middle School to participate in varsity wrestling.

Official AHSAA rules state Junior High teams consist of 7TH - 9TH graders in Alabama but  we currently do not have a Middle School team at Russell County School District. Our Middle School kids wrestle and practice with the varsity wrestling team but have events where they will wrestle other Junior High aged athletes if they are not on the varsity roster.  Athletes considered 'JV' includes Junior High and High School athletes not on the varsity roster.  

Practices are normally held during the season (Late October to Mid February) from 4PM -  6PM everyday after school in the Commons Area.  During Christmas break there will be a practice schedule posted and given to the Wrestlers.

Kids from the Middle School participating in wrestling will will ride over to the high school on 1ST Bus wave after school and get off the bus at the high school and come inside to the commons area for wrestling practice.  All parents/guardians are responsible for ensuring their student athlete has transportation to and from practices as well as ensuring they have money for dinner during wrestling events.

We allow ALL students to participate whether male or female no matter the experience level.  To wrestle varsity, we will have wrestle offs (meaning you will have to beat your teammates to wrestle at a particular weight class)

Wrestling is open to both Girls and Boys and all of us practice together.  Currently Female wrestling is NOT a sanctioned sport in Alabama and female wrestlers have to participate in the AHSAA wrestling tournaments with Males.  But we do participate in several all girl tournaments throughout the year in Georgia and Alabama.
