The mission of the Russell County High School Counseling Department is to encourage, develop, and support the academic, personal/social, and career growth of each and every student. Our vision is to “inspire, empower, and educate with excellence" through the implementation of a comprehensive, data-driven school counseling plan as outlined by the American School Counseling Association. We strive to foster an inclusive, culturally competent environment that further supports the holistic progression of each student from their freshman year to their graduation and beyond.

Russell County School District is a diverse and growing area in East Alabama, which has a blend of rural and urban elements. The county is made of several small communities including Seale, Fort Mitchell, Hurtsboro, Hatchechubbee, Pittsview, and the greater Phenix City region. We are a culturally diverse system that consists of an ethnic makeup of many different backgrounds in addition to serving a number of military-connected families. We use state-of-the-art technology, which includes computers in classrooms, computer labs, Internet, distance learning classes, hybrid instruction to meet the needs of remote learners, and many virtual learning opportunities.
The Russell County Attendance Area has one high school (9-12th grade).
Russell County High School consists of a student population of 1056 students. Over 57% of our school population receives free or reduced lunch. Russell County High School has three full-time counselors that serve a population of 249 ninth graders, 266 tenth graders, 225 eleventh graders, and 199 seniors (481 males, 471 females). Our population by ethnicity reveals that 43% of our students are white/Caucasian, 47% are black/African American, and less than 10% are of other races and/or ethnicities. Additionally, 3% of our student population consists of English as a second language learners. At least 6% of our enrolled students are part of a military-connected family.
We have 112 members of the faculty and staff including the principal, three assistant principals, three school counselors, and a prevention specialist.
