Students will behave in a manner appropriate for the classroom and will be responsible for their own actions. Students must:
1. Be in their seats when the bell rings for class to begin & leave when the teacher dismisses the class, not when the bell rings.
2. Be respectful of the teacher, classroom visitors, other students, their property, and the school’s property. Speak using kind words and courteous actions. Listen without interrupting. Treat others as you would be treated. Don’t violate other students’ things or my things.
3. Refrain from bringing food, drinks, and/or gum to the classroom. (Students can come talk to me if arrangements are needed).
4. Refrain from wearing hats/caps and sunglasses for the entire class period.
5. Refrain from asking for restroom passes. Use your time wisely before school, between classes, and during lunch.
6. Remember that school rules also apply in the classroom. Electronic devices are to be used for accessing French content only. Cell phones must be turned OFF at ALL times during class. Students who are misusing electronic devices will be issued an Electronic Referral as a first warning. After the third, the student will have to sent to the office to turn in the device.
7. Each class has also considered rules and ideas to help this class run smoothly and those will be taken into consideration, as well.
NOTE: Grooming instruments and other inappropriate items brought to the classroom will be confiscated at the teacher’s discretion. Students should refrain from combing/brushing hair, putting on make-up/perfume, passing and/or writing notes, etc. in the classroom.
CONSEQUENCES FOR INAPPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR:
1. Warning and/or seat change
2. Conference with student (note or telephone call to parent/guardian)
3. Detention (note or telephone call to parent/guardian)
4. Office referral
Depending on the infraction and/or situation, consequences may not occur in the above order.
CONSEQUENCES FOR EXCELLENT BEHAVIOR:
1. Note or phone call home
2. Positive reinforcement
3. Increased learning
4. Respect from teacher and peers
5. Other rewards TBD (Homework Pass, extra credit, etc.)
Restorative Practice
This year, along with the rules listed above, I have also implemented the use of restorative practice in the classroom. The goal of this practice is to allow students to contribute to and participate in the creation of rules that all will follow. Students are given a chance to share their ideas, vote on the rules, and then sign the rules as a contract that everyone must follow. Through this process, all students are expected to hold each other accountable in the classroom. The goal is to create a safe, comfortable, and effective classroom environment.
