Expectations & FAQ
Expectations for student athletes:
Permit. You must have a permit in order to practice. Go to the activities office and ask for forms for track and field. You’ll need a recent physical, a parent signature, and money. ($10 if you qualify for free and reduced lunch, or $80 standard participation & material fee)
Academics: Student athletes are students first. You must attend school regularly and maintain academic eligibility. It’s not acceptable to skip school and come to practice.
Attendance: All athletes are expected to attend every practice and meet.
Legitimate reasons for missing practice or a meet without notice include illness or a family emergency.
Having to work is not a legitimate excuse. The schedule is already posted.
If you know of a reason ahead of time (at least a week in advance), communicate that to your coaches.
Punctuality: Practice starts at 3. Be ready, in the fieldhouse, then. Attendance will be taken.
Respect: Be respectful to your coaches, your peers, and everyone running the meets. Be polite. We’re representing our school. Make us look good! Address your coaches as “Coach _____”
Attire (Clothing & Shoes)
Everyone: Wear athletic clothes to practice (no jeans). Be prepared to run outside every day. (Warm layers)
Sprinters: wear long pants every day.
Wear running shoes for practice.
Throwers: bring shotput shoes to practice once you have them. (Rogan’s)
Go to Rogan’s shoes and tell them what your events are. They will help you find the right type of shoes for meets.
Lockers: We will move between the fieldhouse and outdoors. You should bring a combination lock to keep your items secure in a locker during practice.
Phones (and earbuds) should be secured in your locker during practice. It should not be on your person unless a coach has specifically asked you to have it that day.
