The Racine Unified School District Special Education Department has put together resources just for you. The Special Education Family Resource Site has a variety of resources  and information related to special 

education, specific disability areas and community resources. 

It is our goal to provide you information and resources to better support both you and your student through our department.  The resources, information, and laws are continually changing in special education so you will find the information here updates as well.  If there is a topic you would like more information or resources on please go to the Feedback / Need More? page to submit your request.

24-25 Parental Notice for Medicaid Billing

Dear parents/guardians of , 

This is the notification of your rights under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) regarding Medicaid billing. IDEA allows certain services provided under an IEP to be covered by Medicaid. The Wisconsin Medicaid school­based services benefit is a way for school districts to receive additional federal revenue. These services include attendant care services, nursing services, physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech and language services, specialized medical transportation, psychological services, counseling, social work services, and developmental testing and assessment.

Flexible Scheduling Model for Related Service Providers (Speech, OT and PT)

This year we will be phasing in a new model for service delivery.  This model is being used in many Districts across the state of Wisconsin as well as the entire country. This is a Service Delivery model, which will enhance services to students, increase consultation time with teachers and parents, and create a better working environment. It is called a “Flexible Scheduling Model” for service delivery.

Three weeks out of the month are designated for direct intervention with students and one week is used for direct/indirect services (Service Week). These services include: Direct Intervention, Conducting and attending meetings, Performing evaluations and consultations, Visiting classrooms, Developing materials and Completing special education procedures. This model is supported by the American Speech-Language & Hearing Association,  American Occupational Therapy Association and American Physical Therapy Association. Research indicates that this model provides:

• More consistent services to students 

• Increased time for collaboration between teachers and parents.

• Small group intervention directly related to classroom standards, grade-level expectations, and academic achievement.

• Promotes multidisciplinary collaboration, co-teaching and differentiated instruction

• There are more opportunities to integrate curriculum and plan interdisciplinary lessons and units.
  
  

Below are the scheduled weeks for the “Service Week” week of each month.

September 4-8            October 2-6

October 30- November 3       November 27-December 1

January 8-12     February 5-9

March 4-8          April 8-12

May 6-10           June 3-7

Este ciclo escolar estaremos implementando un nuevo modelo de servicio.Este modelo se está usando en varios distritos a lo largo y ancho del estado de Wisconsin y del país.Este modelo de servicio mejorará servicios para los estudiantes, aumentará tiempo para consulta con los maestros y padres, y creará un mejor ambiente laboral. Este modelo se llama Modelo de Programación Flexible o “Flexible Scheduling Model”.

Tres semanas del mes son designados para la intervención directa con los estudiantes y una semana es para servicios directos/indirectos (semana de servicio). Estos servicios incluyen: intervención directa, llevar a cabo y asistir a reuniones, hacer evaluaciones y dar consultas, visitar los salones, crear materiales y cumplir con los requisitos de educación especial.Este modelo es apoyado por la Asociación de Lenguaje/Habla y Oír, la Asociación de Terapia Ocupacional y la Asociación de Terapia Física.Las investigaciones muestran que este modelo provee:

●Servicios más consistentes para los estudiantes

●Más tiempo para colaboración entre maestros y padres

●Intervenciones en grupos pequeños que se relacionan directamente a los estándares del salón, expectativas para el nivel de grado y logro académico

●Promueve la colaboración multidisciplinaria, enseñanza en colaboración e instrucción diferenciando

●Hay más oportunidades para integrar el currículo y planear lecciones y módulos interdisciplinarios

Just a friendly reminder that the district will be moving forward with all special education documents being available in the Parent Portal beginning tomorrow on August 15, 2023. 

These documents include: 

• All meeting invitations 

• All evaluation documents

• All Individual Education Plan (IEP) documents

• All Progress Reports

What if I don't have a Parent Portal account or am having issues with my account?

Contact the main office of the school your child attends, enrollment center, or any Family Resource Center.  They will be able to get you an access code to assist with creating your account or troubleshoot any issues. 

Where do I find the documents in the Parent Portal?

Once you have logged into your account, on the left side is a documents section.  There you will need to select the special education section.  Then you will see a list of the documents.  Click any document to view it.  Please also see our How To Reference Guide for additional assistance in accessing the documents. 

What if I still need a paper copy? 

Paper copies are still available upon request.  The first copy of a document will be at the cost of the district.  Any additional copies may be at a cost to the individual requesting.  Contact the special education department at (262) 631-7151 to request a paper copy.

These documents include:
