The Home Mentor Journey

RVA Home Mentor Zainab Khan and her mother-in-law Elizabeth, also a RVA Home Mentor, share their story and talk about the lessons learned on their Home Mentor Journey.

Between Zainab and Elizabeth, they have 18 children and many years of combined homeschooling and home mentoring experience. They don’t profess to have it all together but want to show you ways they’ve learned to navigate the journey of being a home mentor.

We as Home Mentors are all caregivers. We hope you enjoy the combined efforts of the Mentor Series and the Parent Advisory Council as we inspire and consider the importance of self-care for caregivers.

During this webinar we we viewed "Self-Care for Survival: The Importance of Caring for Yourself While Caring for Others" then followed through in guided reflection and resource sharing.

Do you need to declutter or downsize? Assist a friend or family member with a life transition? Or tackle the chaos that comes with a young, growing family?

Getting organized is more of a journey than a destination. Certified Professional Organizer® Melanie Juedes will share helpful strategies to turn small steps into big results.

How to Talk to Your Child or

Young Adult about Race

Do you want to have conversations about race and racism in your home, but don't know where to begin? Join 3 RVA teachers, Nicole O'Connor, Trish Schmahl, and Alison Smith, in a conversation about how to facilitate conversations about race and racism in your home. They will be providing a brief overview of some key terms and facts pertaining to race to set the stage and then will be breaking down how you can talk with your child about race at each age level - elementary, middle school, and high school age students. They want you to come away with ideas and conversation starters for you to use in your home and also provide you with resources as adults to learn more about race and racism. These discussions are far from easy, but they are necessary. They want to empower you and your child to make our world a better place!
