We’re empowering young women to get involved in politics and transform our world. We offer programs that equip them with the hands-on skills and confidence they need to run and win.
With over 100 training programs across the country each year, we've trained over 20,000 women (and counting!) And because we're nonpartisan, we're achieving this in the spirit of fellowship while focusing on building stronger communities for young women who want to solve problems and be the leaders we need.
Running Start is committed to practicing what we preach. Every staff member:
is a trained Elect Her facilitator
is encouraged to negotiate their salary, both when they start and annually (including one-on-one coaching with a mentor to prepare, if needed)
receives a one-time bonus to jump-start their retirement account
is contributing to their retirement accounts such that they maximize the employer match
is engaged with Running Start's network of supporters and alums via our online communities
is encouraged to develop their voice as a speaker and writer on Running Start's behalf (blog posts, media interviews, event speeches, etc.)
We acknowledge that our headquarters in Washington, DC are located in Anacostan, home to the Piscataway Conoy Tribe, whose histories, languages, and cultures continue to positively influence us. We are thankful for the ability to live, work, and gather on this land.
Running Start strives to create an inclusive environment in every event and program, as well as within the organization. These values align with our mission to work towards reflective democracy by getting more women into politics.
Running Start is engaged in the ongoing process of practicing antiracism.
