STEAM is a specialized subject area that your child attends once a week for 45 minutes of time. STEAM involves many different subject matters that involve Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math.
Students will be working on various activities from computer programming (coding) to typing. Students will typically be engaged in small group activities during their time in STEAM learning how to collaborate in a group and work together. In other instances students will participate in competitive activities such as our annual Battle Bot Competition or monthly typing competitions against their classmates.
Students will be working with the STEAM teacher once a month utilizing some of our high tech materials such as robotics, LEGO engineering kits, and more. Students will be assessed through data on the websites they use and work on in class as well as through informal observation while working in groups and independently.
Students will receive a grade in STEAM for three marking periods in the following categories:
Attendance
Participation
Creativity
Peer Interaction
Technical Skills
A student can earn 3 points in each of the following categories that will effect their overall STEAM grade in each marking period.
A maximum of 15 points can be awarded to students resulting in the best score possible.
An unsatisfactory score in STEAM will result in a report card comment noting any issues in class.
