X-Phi Lab Group Meeting, 14th of March 2023
The meeting was an opportunity for the lab group members to come together, and to meet other people who were also connected to the lab group. In addition, there were three research project presentations that were each followed by a group discussion.
First of all, there was a short presentation about the history of the Experimental Philosophy lab group, by Twan Tromp. Subsequently, Otto Backé and Naoise Gilmore presented a research study about “conditions for social norm violations and metaethics”, which is the topic of the research project they have been working on as part of their Young Scientists at UCG internship programme under supervision of Lieuwe Zijlstra and Jacob Dijkstra (Sociology Department). The next research project was presented by Sanne van Emmerik and Julius Westerhof, who have been working on the philosophical topic of “personal identity”. Lastly, Alysha Wings and Kerstin Baureis gave a presentation about "third-person attributions of fulfilment and meaning in life”, which is the topic they are currently working on as part of their research internship at UCG. Each presentation was followed by a brief group discussion about the research projects, their potential, and their challenges.
Lastly, Professor Gorazd Andrejc also attended and shared his views on experimental philosophy. We are working on collaborative projects between students at the UCG and the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies.
