Assistant Campus Minister Job Description
Goal: To empower a highly capable CM-placement to serve as an Assistant Campus Minister who is fully empowered to lead, serve, and develop under the guidance of an experienced Campus Minister.
List of various items:
Teaching/preaching skills:
Preach at Large Group (approximately 3 times per semester)
CM directed sermon evaluation for encouragement and professional growth
Collaborate alongside the CM on selection of sermon series for the upcoming semester
Help critically evaluate the CM’s preaching and offer constructive and honest feedback
Teach at Ministry Team mtg (as a part of team teaching, 1-2 times per semester)
Be open to other spaces to teach
Small Groups:
Lead at least 3 weekly small group Bible studies, including both needs within the RUF community (for ex, soph guys bible study) and outreach bible studies (for ex, ATO Bible Study) to engage new missionary spaces on campus.
CM and CMA together help in recruiting small group leaders and empowering small group spaces
Lead the training and development of new small group Bible study leaders
learn the curriculum of training (O-I-A) to help evaluate and coach small group leaders
Learn and implement with students the ‘How to Study the Bible’ and ‘How to lead a small group’ training modules
Attend several fraternity bible studies with the CM and lead most follow up relationships with guys (including initiating one on ones, spaces to do activities with them, and helping them connect to RUF as a whole, as well as empowering them within their fraternity to serve Jesus)
One on Ones and Campus Ministry Development
Pastor: 8-12 one on one’s per week: starting friendships, spiritual conversations, sharing
the gospel, supporting and building up covenant children, prayer and individual Bible study, spiritual counsel with a focus on guys, particularly developing discipleship structured time of reading the Bible with them and developing them as leaders
Initiate outreach - pursue students contacts with Staff team (both those who visit RUF
Events, other outreaches, meetings and new people you meet on campus)
-seek to develop new contacts on the campus for the purpose of ministry
-Seek to group student contacts into a small group Bible study group, existing or new.
Seek to develop ministry in areas of campus that RUF is not presently reaching and being stretched to go to places on campuses that could be uncomfortable/awkward
Initiate own list of one on ones through being present on campus and meeting people through your particular hobbies (open to playing sports with students, working out with them, or any other means to meet students and start evangelistic relationships in a college town)
Ministry Team-Training student leaders
Learn and help the CM with ministry team/servant team training every other week meetings
Teach on an aspect of ministry and how it fits with the P.O.M (team teaching for ministry team leaders)
Help CM in running a productive servant team leadership mtg
Coach student leaders in their job descriptions, help develop their ministry skills, and initiate difficult pastoral conversations with students who aren’t fulfilling their roles
Interns and staff
Learn how to coach and oversee interns and Campus Staff
Observe and learn how to run a weekly staff meeting
Oversee and mentor interns
Help them learn about their gifts, strengths and weaknesses
Assist them, inspire them, and empower them in their mission to freshman and fringe
Prayer and Spiritual development
Develop a prayer ministry as part of your work day both individually and with the Alabama staff team.
Staff prayer and individual prayer
Develop a healthy spiritual devotional life, Bible reading, prayer and journaling
Receive weekly one on one from CM and allow him to pastor you
Staff and Area Training
Participate in all aspects of nationally led staff training
Develop fluency in RUF POM as directed by the Campus Minister
Come to every RUF Alabama joint committee meeting and be prepared to report and make connections with committee members
Give RUF Bama Staff including CM and CS honest feedback on the ministry and expect to be empowered to be a part of the change
Church/Presbytery
Attend Warrior Presbytery meetings (3 each year)
Develop relationship with presbytery churches
Find a home PCA church (spouse and family are expected to join this congregation)
Serve churches where needs arise (namely, preaching and communion)
Fundraising
Develop financial partnerships with individuals and churches to sustain the ministry budget
Speak to CM before contacting churches that support the CM
Maintain a multifaceted communication strategy with existing and prospective financial
partners.
Personal contacts calls, letters, emails, face to face
Group communication electronic and print
Social media presence
Serve regional churches (pulpit supply, mission conferences, adult education) to develop contacts and support.
