Philosophy. What a word. We do not mean the study of 'intellectual thought'. We mean a developed 'how' to taking the 'why (the gospel)' to the 'what (our methods)'.
Our philosophy is the posture of Christ (assumptions), the message of Christ (content target), and the vision of Christ (the goals).
It saves us from personality.
It saves us from ourselves.
It saves us from uncritical thinking.
It saves us from fundamentalism.
It saves us from liberalism.
It saves us from thinking any theology could not be contextual. (This does not mean that theology is relative).Â
It saves us from triumphalism.
It draws us to think about HOW to love others.
It keeps the gospel and Jesus central.
It draws us to think about what people at UA believe.
It draws us to know our campus, our students, and our city and how to share the gospel in this context.
It enables us to talk to actual people, rather than to make ministry about creating machines and 'the right answers' and 'the right way of doing things'.
It enables us to reflect more deeply on who Jesus is and what He has to say to us and to our culture.
What is Our Philosophy?
The Posture of Christ: We have 'unseen' assumptions we bring to campus
The Message of Christ: We have 'a content target' we focus on
The Vision of Christ: We have long-term goals that only God can produce
Philosophy of Ministry (POM) in Pictures
We are for the gospel and all things existing for the glory of God.
We believe in partnering with other campus ministries and campus groups when necessary. We also believe it is good that there are many ministries and many churches to serve many different kinds of students. We believe in doing what we do in a compelling way and not speaking for other ministries in order to foster competition, increase jealousy, and manipulate students so we can maintain and grow our power. That being said we believe in naming things that have been our and others' experience - there is a big difference between naming and blaming.
We are for the flourishing of life at The University of Alabama - spiritually, emotionally, mentally, economically, culturally, intellectually, etc. If RUF Alabama ceased to exist we would want the University to deeply feel the impact of our leaving.
We are for Christians and non-Christians.
