eDNA Laboratory
eDNA Laboratory
The Environmental DNA (eDNA) Laboratory focuses on detecting and analyzing genetic material released by organisms into their environment, such as soil, water, and air. This non-invasive technique helps to study biodiversity, monitor species, and assess ecosystem health without the need to capture or observe organisms directly.
On April 25th 2025, the College celebrated the launch of the eDNA laboratory. This marks another remarkable milestone in our country’s biodiversity conservation journey.
The new lab will allow researchers to collect DNA from water, soil, and air to identify species, assess biodiversity, and monitor ecological changes.
This significant milestone was made possible through the collaborative efforts of ETH Zürich, the Department of Forests and Park Services, WWF Bhutan, WWF US, the Royal University of Bhutan, Eidgenössische Forschungsanstalt WSL (Switzerland), the Bhutan Trust Fund for Environmental Conservation, and various government agencies in Bhutan.
The College extends sincere gratitude to everyone involved in the successful launch of the lab.
