College of Natural Resources, Lobesa, Punakha
I am Kencho Wangdi, an Associate Lecturer in Food Science and Technology at the College of Natural Resources, Bhutan. My academic foundation began with a B.Tech in Biotechnology, which equipped me with strong expertise in molecular biology, protein engineering, and applied life sciences. Building on this, I pursued advanced training in global innovation programs that merge science with technology.
I hold a Diploma in Fab Academy, a globally recognized program in digital fabrication founded by Prof. Neil Gershenfeld at MIT’s Center for Bits and Atoms. Fab Academy is based on MIT’s renowned course How to Make (Almost) Anything.
I also earned a Graduate Certificate in How to Grow (Almost) Anything (HTGAA), a cutting‑edge synthetic biology program offered by the MIT Media Lab and taught by pioneers including Prof. David Kong, Prof. George Church, and Prof. Joseph Jacobson. HTGAA
My journey blends science, sustainability, and innovation — from teaching advanced courses such as food chemistry and nutrition to pioneering interdisciplinary programs like Learn Almost Anything (LAA), which equips students with digital fabrication and biofabrication skills.
My research explores sustainable solutions, including the development of eco‑friendly packaging from mushroom mycelium and agricultural waste, and microbial approaches to biodegradation and wastewater treatment. Alongside academic work, I have contributed to national and international innovation platforms: serving on the technical team for Bhutan Fab Zero with MIT collaborators to establish four FabLabs across the country, hosting the Fab Bhutan Challenge: Interspecies Peace Negotiation on human–wildlife conflict, and participating in the Fab Island Challenge in Bali. I have also led automation projects for the college floriculture garden and supported PhD research through greenhouse automation.
Through this website, I invite you to explore my teaching, research, and projects — a journey of curiosity, creativity, and commitment to building a sustainable future.
