SPECIAL EDUCATION

We believe that all students should have the opportunity to access and engage with our curriculum. Our school is proud to cater for students with special needs from varied and dynamic backgrounds.  Our school embraces a totally holistic approach to learning with the support of professionals including teachers, specialists, support staff and outside agencies. We endeavour to work closely with the parents and whānau of children with special educational needs and value their specialist expertise. We also access specific professional learning when required to further support students' particular learning requirements.

At Ruakākā School we pride ourselves on providing a curriculum that values inclusiveness and positive relationships, and nurtures all abilities within supportive learning environments. Our school has a unique learning space that we call ‘The Sanctuary’. It is a high sensory learning area dedicated to children with special needs. We also have a highly effective Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator (SENCO) who ensures that all tamariki with special needs receive the support they need.
