Policies

The mission of the Durham Elementary K-8 School Library is to make the Library an integral part of school instruction and curriculum by providing diverse learning experiences, resources, and activities that contribute to the creation of lifelong learners.

Reference and reserved books are for in-library use only.

No fines are charged for overdue items but students and families are expected to be conscious and respectful of due dates and to pay full replacement cost for books, audiobooks, playaways, and other Library owned materials that are lost, damaged, or mistreated.

PRACTICE BOOKS and AUDIOBOOKS

In addition to paying full replacement costs for books, audiobooks, Playaways, and other Library-owned materials lost, damaged, or mistreated, students will then be limited to checking out a practice book or audiobook (CD only) to practice the proper care and handling of Library materials. Once the practice book or audiobook is returned safely, in its original condition, students can again check out books, audiobooks, and Playaways that are officially part of the DCS Library Collection.
