MORE ABOUT YOUR LIBRARIAN | MS. DAMONE

Libraries have always been a constant in my life, whether I was walking with my mother to Freeport’s B.H. Bartol Library for story time as a toddler; checking out Miss Rumphius from the Morse Street School Library at the age of 5 and reading it to my grandmother, passing off solid aural memorization as the actual ability to read; or getting lost in the stacks at Bowdoin College during a Freeport High School American Studies’ field trip and finding my community and undergraduate home. My approach to reading, learning, and Libraries has been not only one of practice but also a way of enriching and understanding one’s life, one’s self, and the world around us in new and exciting ways.

I am a graduate of the Freeport School System and I have been working at Durham Community School (DCS) for the last fourteen years as the Librarian. At DCS, I have been a member of the School Culture Action Team, Collaborative Problem Solving Team, and the School Leadership Team. Before my time at DCS, I worked at Freeport High School as the Assistant Librarian and later as a part-time Art Teacher.

In each school community that I have been a part of, the Library has been a destination and a place for people to connect, ideas to flourish, and dreams to be imagined in ways that strengthen our communities and make our world a better place.

This has always been my goal as a Librarian.

Through shared lessons, reading experiences, and projects, I work to provide our learning community with a space where everyone is welcome, heard, valued, and empowered to make our world a better place.
