Last month was the Junior Achievement Business challenge, where SRTC Academy of Business students participated in a simulation-based program where teams take on the role of CEOs in a virtual cell phone company, making real-world business decisions involving production, marketing, research and development, and corporate social responsibility.

Now is a good time to update your resume, especially if you want a summer job! On April 29th and 30th, Ms. Alaimo presented to any students who wanted support in resume building. See the presentation below for helpful tips and tricks!
Remember that your Q4 grades impact your SAC pass eligibility and your ability to participate in sports and extracurricular activities, so finish the year strong!
Dual Enrollment Information
The fall semester UMaine system classes are now available for registration in OnCourse. Community college class registration for the fall semester should open in the next few weeks. Please be aware that any students besides rising seniors (class of 2026) will be part of the group that only has 18 free lifetime credits (rather than the 12 per year students have been receiving). Also note, if you withdraw late or fail a class, this will count against your credit limit. Even though you can take classes as an underclassmen, be sure you are ready for them before signing up.

Seniors
Senior Aspirations Day
Friday, May 2nd is Senior Aspirations Day! We encourage you to wear something that represents the college, military branch, career, etc. you will be pursuing after high school. We hope this will be a fun way to celebrate the recent decisions you have made about your plans for next year. We will take a group photo in the main lobby, have a photo booth set up, and a table where you can fill out your decision to add to our bulletin board to celebrate your accomplishments!
This year's Local Scholarship Application (open to students only) is due on Friday, May 2nd at 2:15 pm! This year, we are offering 33 scholarships exclusively open to Marshwood High School seniors! Multiple scholarships are available for students attending two-year/trade programs, so you don't need to attend a four-year school next year to apply! See the document below with required information you need for the scholarship application, as well as detailed requirements for each scholarship. Monday, May 5th: housing application opens! In order to qualify for housing, you must be registered for at least 12 credits AND upload your immunization records. Housing slots fill up quickly, so it's important to get these steps done well in advance to reserve your spot.

The local American Legion post is offering 5 scholarships open to all South Berwick, Eliot, and Rollinsford seniors. Your family do not need to be members of the Legion to apply! The York County Elder Abuse Task Force is offering a $500 scholarship! Any York County high school graduate is eligible to apply, and a 500 word essay regarding "What is elder abuse and why does it matter to you?" is required. The deadline is June 1st, 2025.

University of Maine's SigEp fraternity will be providing one $1,000 and two $500 scholarships to incoming male student who represent the Balanced Man; one who is diligent in both academics and extracurricular activities. The students who win this award are NOT required to have any affiliation with the fraternity, nor will joining help their chances of winning. The deadline for this scholarship is June 15th, 2025.

College Essay Writing Workshops
In May, counselors will be presenting in Honors English III classes about starting a draft of your college essay. Freshmen
Mrs. Edson just visited all World History classes to talk about values and careers! Students identified and rated their personal values, participated in group discussions and brainstormed how values are related to choosing a career. 9th graders were also introduced to our online college/career tool called SCOIR. In SCOIR, students took a career interest inventory and "bookmarked" their top 3 career interests. SCOIR will be used each year with students and will continue to build with curriculum opportunities. Spring is here and it's time to take your bike out for a ride! Could it use a repair or a tune up? You're in luck! Marshwood High School students are repairing and cleaning bikes to earn community service. If you are interested in having your bike serviced, fill out this form!
Are you struggling in a class? Do you need help getting organized? If you answered yes to either of these questions, meeting with a peer tutor is right for you! Peer tutors are current MHS upperclassmen that volunteer to tutor students struggling in specific subjects. If you are interested in meeting with a peer tutor, connect with your classroom teacher and they will start the referral process.
Jim Gray, an Ed Tech III at Great Works School, is available to tutor students 1-2 days a week after school. Jim has a degree in History and taught eighth grade English last year. He is available to help students with writing papers, understanding a topic, or general organizational skills. His rate is $50 per hour but he is price negotiable! If you are interested, reach out to Jim at james.gray@rsu35.org.
Don't forget, 50 hours of community service is part of your graduation requirements. Your 50 hours need to be completed by May 1st of your senior year. Setting a goal of completing 10 to 15 hours each year of high school will help to set you up for achieving this requirement in no time! Community Service forms are located in the D-Pod Hub, or can be printed from our BRAND NEW community service website. This website is FULL of opportunities offered year-round and is regularly updated, so be sure to check back often!
We are once again looking for student volunteers for the summer boost program. We would love to have any interested high school students (rising 9th through rising 12th) who are interested in completing their community service hours this summer by working with younger students in our summer boost program.
The program will be taking place at Great Works School
July 8- July 31 ( T, W, TH only)
8:00am-12:30pm
Students will be supporting young learners by reading books aloud, playing games in small groups, helping at recess, working on sight words and generally assisting the classroom teacher.
There will be one training session for volunteers on July 7th from 10am-12noon.
Students who participate will earn up to 56 hours of community service based on how much they are able to attend.
Bus transportation and breakfast/ lunch will be available to all volunteers who need/want to access it.

Mainspring is a social services collective in Kittery, Maine that is officially open to the public! It will house Footprints Food Pantry and Fair Tide Thrift Store. They are so excited to provide a "one-stop shop" for resources in the community! Click here for a full resource list.
The Marshwood High School Community Closet exists to provide new and gently used clothing, hygiene supplies, food, shoes, and other daily essentials at no cost to students in need and their families. If you or someone you know would like to access the Community Closet, please reach out to your school counselor and/or the Nurse. This process is discrete and you can have regular access to these materials. Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics (CCBHCs) are behavioral health organizations that provide a broad range of community behavioral health services. We are happy to share that Sweetser has received a grant to open a brand new mental health and substance use clinic in Sanford! Services include, but are not limited to:
Outpatient mental health and substance use screening, assessment & diagnosis
Treatment for outpatient mental health and substance use disorder
24/7 mobile crisis response and crisis stabilization Case management services
Peer support services
Psychiatric medication management and care coordination

Footprints Food Pantry (31 Old Post Rd. in Kittery) exists to reduce the impact of hunger in the community, share resources, and support the lives of those who have joined the Footprints community. They are open for food distribution on Tuesdays 5:30-6:30 PM, Wednesdays 9:30 AM-12:30 PM, and Saturdays from 9-10 AM. They also deliver to families who cannot access the food pantry in person. Families who need access to fresh, healthy food can access the Gather Mobile Market in the parking lot of the Wentworth Douglass Hospital's Spinelli Building (15 Old Rollinsford Rd., Dover, NH). Gather will be at this location every other Monday from 12 pm to 2 pm. There are no obligations or requirements to access the food pantry.
