What do we do in Library/Technology Class in grades 4 and 5?

We learn about books.

• We continue to learn to search for fiction and non-fiction books using Destiny Discover and then locate them on the shelves in the library .

• We learn how to access reviews of books before we borrow using Goodreads and other sources.

• We learn to place holds on books, create collections and wish lists, and write lively and concise digital reviews of the books we have read.

• We continue to learn about authors, series, collections, and genres of books. we develop strong preferences for certain genres and know how to locate books we will like.

• We explore non-fiction topics using biographies, historical fiction, as well as non-fiction books.

We learn about digital tools.

• We regularly use databases to find information.

• We regularly find, read, and listen to digital and audio books as independent readers.

• We regularly create digital books, book trailers, and comics.

• We design and create videos with Adobe Spark, iMovie, Green Screen and Stop motion apps.

• We use block-based drag and drop and/or text based programming to solve problems and create games and tools.

• Use Class Dojo, Google Classroom, and the Google Suite of tools to get information, participate in surveys and polls, and to complete and turn in work.

We learn to navigate our iPads and stay safe online.

• We learn how to used shortcuts and Siri for efficiency.

• We learn how to use apps like dictation and speak to make us more efficient.

• We use the Google suite of apps (drive, docs, sheets, and slides) for work completion.

• We understand private vs. public information, how to avoid dangers when dealing with strangers online, how to be civil online, and how to avoid, withdraw from, and report online bullying and conflict.

• We create and use passwords safety, spot scams and phishing, and avoid potential malware carriers.

• We create emails, make attachments, use subject lines and create signatures.
