ACE Program at OMS!!

ACE Program at OMS in RSU 13:

RSU 13’s ACE Program is an approved state Gifted & Talented program governed by Maine State laws. The legislature established the need for specialized programs to meet the diverse academic needs of students identified as gifted and talented. Gifted and talented (GT) children are those students who excel or have the potential to excel beyond their age peers in the regular school program, who need and can benefit from gifted and talented education programming beyond the classroom. They are capable of high performance, exceptional production, or exceptional learning behavior and in our district are identified in the following areas:

General or specific intellectual ability
Specific academic aptitude
Visual and Performing Arts
RSU13's ACE Program is part of the district's multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) model. This means that students who need support beyond their classroom instruction (Tier 1) receive more intensive supports. This includes students whose needs may be above grade level, which is the focus of ACE.

What does the ACE Program Provide?

The RSU 13 ACE program is built on the belief that all students deserve to be supported and challenged at their individual academic/creative levels and learning styles. We use the multi-tiered approach, MTSS, that offers both acceleration and enrichment opportunities to ensure these high ability learners are receiving the academic support that they need to thrive!

Students who are identified through our ACE identification process have Accelerated Learning Plans (ALPs) that target areas where extra support will help them build on strengths. The plan specifies goals and may include differentiated instruction in the classroom, specialized or accelerated instruction by a specialist teacher, and/or access to enrichment programming aligned with their ALP pathway.

My name is Mrs. Boggs and I am the ACE/Gifted and Talented Teacher at Oceanside Middle School.

I live in Rockland with my husband Jeff. I have three beautiful children Baillie, Nathaniel and Rebecca! Baillie works at UConn as a film producer/editor in the athletic dept. Nathaniel is an architect/project manager in Portland ME! My youngest daughter, Rebecca, lives in Portland too and is a special education teacher at the Deering High School.

I love to spend time outdoors, being physically active. My favorite activites are long bike rides, beach walking, hiking, kayaking, swimming, laughing and doing yoga! I also love knitting, doing puzzles and reading a good book! :)

I have been the ACE Teacher at OMS for over 14 years. I love being with my students and inspiring them to learn and grow as they create and push themselves further along in their education. I consistently offer students content that is relevant to their lives, activities that cause them to process important ideas at a higher level, accelerated learning as an option and lessons that involve creativity including complex, abstract, open-ended, higher level thinking and multifaceted content.
