There is only one quartz mine in Canada, called Mine Cristal, in southeastern Quebec. The biggest quartz exporter in the world is China, in 2015 exporting $72 million (USD) worth of quartz. They are followed by Turkey and India. People use bulldozers and sometimes explosives in mostly open pit mines to mine quartz.
The glass is also used to make windows and cups. The quartz can also be used to make jewelry. Quartz is a non renewable resource on any human timescale.
Quartz makes up around 20% of the earth's crust. China sells the most quartz in the world, selling $77.5 million (USD) in 2017.
After quartz is mined, it will go through a range of machines, all that reduce the size of it. Then, quartz is concentrated using froth flotation, which is also used in the processing of chalcopyrite.
