2018 Hall of Fame Inductees

Katie (Jordan) Seversen - Class of 2001

Graduating from Summit with the class of 2001, Katie Seversen had already become a State Champion with the 1998 Summit Falcons softball team. Since that time Katie has shown superior ability in her professional duties as well, beginning her teaching career at Rockwood South Middle School as a Mathematics teacher. After spending seven years teaching math, Katie moved across the school to become a teacher of PE and Health. In 2015, Katie was named the Rockwood South Teacher of the Year and went on to be named Rockwood School District’s Middle School Teacher of the Year and to receive the Emerson Excellence in Teaching Award. In 2016 she was named as the MOAHPERD (Missouri Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance) St. Louis Area Middle School Teacher of the Year and went on to be named MOAHPERD’s Missouri Middle School Teacher of the Year.

As a dedicated teacher Katie brought heart monitors to the eighth graders at Rockwood South, established a greenhouse and gardens at the school, and helped to bring in thousands of dollars in grants and donations for a great variety of other programs at Rockwood South. Katie received the prestigious Rockwood ROSE Award in 2012 for her tireless efforts in helping the students and programs at Rockwood South Middle School.

Katie has a BS in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and a Master of Science in Education in Curriculum and Instruction. She holds certifications in Mathematics, Physical Education, and Health. While at SIU she earned First Team MVC honors for her accomplishments as an athlete and ESPN Academic All-District for her accomplishments as a math major.

As a Summit Falcon, Katie was a member of the softball, basketball, and swim team. She was also a member of Orchestra and the Math clubs.

Alyson (Newton) Voelkerding - Class of 2000

Representing the Summit Class of 2000, Alyson Voelkerding is a Pediatric Nurse at Mercy Children’s Hospital in St. Louis. At Mercy, Alyson provides care and comfort for her patients, educates her patients and their families on their plans of care, and collaborates with other medical professionals to provide the highest quality of care for all of her patients during their hospitalization. She is also trained to work in the Pediatric ICU and the Neonatal ICU.

Before joining the staff of Mercy, Alyson founded Kindness for Colton, a non-profit organization that has raised over $80,000. Alyson and her husband founded the organization in memory of their son, Colton, who was born with numerous medical challenges and passed away shortly before his first birthday. The organization raises funds through an annual trivia night and golf tournament to award funds to families with children with severe or multiple medical needs. Over $50,000 has been presented to families to help pay for necessities such as medical bills, service dogs, accessible vehicles, and funeral expenses. Throughout her school years and in her adulthood, Alyson has volunteered for Habitat for Humanity and the National Marrow Donor Program, as well as serving as a Parent Advocate with the Tracheostomy Care Committee at Mercy.

Before becoming a nurse, Alyson was a math teacher at Summit from 2007-2016 teaching Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Statistics. She was also the Junior Varsity and Varsity cheerleading coach.

In high school, Alyson participated in band, dance team, and cheerleading. As a sophomore Alyson was the JV dance team captain, and as a senior she was the varsity captain of the cheerleading squad. Alyson attended Truman State University and the University of Missouri- St. Louis to earn a BA in Education graduating Summa cum Laude. She earned her second degree with a BS in Nursing from UMSL and was once again a Summa cum Laude graduate.

Brandon Williams - Class of 2007

Realizing the dream of becoming a professional football player is what Brandon Williams achieved after leaving Rockwood Summit High School. Brandon has been in the NFL for six seasons and is currently the starting nose tackle with the Baltimore Ravens. Before being in the third round of the 2013 NFL draft, he attended Missouri Southern State University and was a defensive tackle for their football team. Brandon was named to three different All-American teams. During his junior year he was a unanimous selection for All Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association.

Before he reached fame during his college days and in the NFL, Brandon learned how to handle the gridiron as a member of the Falcons and was an All-Conference and All-State selection at defensive tackle and led the Falcons with 99 tackles and seven sacks in 2006. He was also a team captain and was recognized as the Suburban South Defensive Player of the Year. Brandon was also a member of the Basketball and Track & Field teams.

After recently signing a $54 million contract, Brandon is the highest paid nose tackle in the NFL. Since earning recognition as an outstanding football player, Brandon has not forgotten his upbringing. He has paid it forward. He is an active member in the Baltimore community and has adopted the Westport Homes chapter of the Boys & Girls Club in Baltimore, Maryland. In addition to hosting Christmas parties, end of the school year celebrations, and back to school parties for the Boys & Girls Club, he most recently developed a program that rewards children who achieve academic benchmarks, perfect attendance at school and at the Boys & Girls Club, and 100 minutes of weekly reading. Brandon also serves as an Ambassador for the Maryland Food Bank and supports fundraising and food-raising initiatives. Brandon is regarded by the Ravens as one of their most involved and giving players.
