2021-22 Nurse Office Notes

  • The Nurse Office remains a place of care and comfort for your students. Please partner with me to prevent, as much as possible, visits from well students.

  • Encourage your students to provide self-care when they can. Supply your student with things they may need during the school day. For example, a full change of clothing, chap stick, hand lotion, contact solution, etc.

  • Start your student's day right with a healthy breakfast or encourage your student to eat breakfast at school. This will help your student to focus and prevent those hunger pangs and headaches mid-morning. Eating a Well-Balanced Diet

  • Make sure your student is getting 8-9 hours of good sleep at night to help them feel well rested, alert, ready to learn, and to help their bodies grow & renew. Do Your Children Get Enough Sleep?

  • Supply your student with a refillable water bottle to prevent the signs and symptoms of dehydration: headache, dizziness, constipation, etc. Water filling stations remain available. Encourage your student to be physically active to grow strong & healthy! The Importance of Physical Activity in Children

  • The Nurse Office remains available for all students, no matter what the need, however it is prudent to try to limit visits to the injured & ill. Please communicate with your student the importance of self-care & empower them with self-confidence.

  • Adults should refrain from entering the health room and instead call Nurse Eli to arrange to drop off medications and paperwork.

  • Routine Daily Medications: These medications may still be given with Nurse Eli, however it is encouraged you reach out to your physician and inquire if an extended release version is available and prudent for your student, so daily medications may be managed at home.

  • Asthma: Inhalers may still be administered at school. Students with good technique may self-carry/administer their inhaler with the proper paperwork submitted. Nebulizer breathing treatments in the health room will not be available at this time. Please reach out to your physician to discuss switching from nebulizer to a metered dose inhaler.

  • Please know, while the Health Room remains open, a space to separate students has been identified within the health room, as well as another separate space for those at-risk and immunocompromised students.

  • Should a student present with signs or symptoms of COVID-19, you will be asked to pick your student up within 30 minutes. Please develop a back-up plan to ensure a trusted adult is available for said pick up & be sure to add these individuals to your student's emergency contact list.
