Each year, Regional School District 17 participates in the Connecticut assessment process. Student Participation is required per Connecticut General Statutes 10-14n.
All students in grades 3-8 will take the Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBA), which assess the full range of the Connecticut Core Standards in English Language Arts and Math.
In addition, students in grades 5, 8 and 11 take the Next Generation Science Assessment (NGSS).
The School-day SAT is administered as a measure of English Language Arts and Math in grade 11.
Typically, the SAT is in March, NGSS assessments are in March through May and SBA is in May. Any student who is absent on testing days will have opportunities for make-ups.
Testing is used to monitor long-term trends, evaluate the full impact of the instruction on student achievement and growth as well as target support and resources where they are needed the most.
