Mr. Michael Komperda

Director

Mr. Komperda is a graduate of the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music where he earned his Bachelor of Music Education degree. Currently in his 15th year teaching, Mr. Komperda teaches in Rocky River, where he directs the Marching Band, Wind Ensemble, two high school Jazz Bands, the Pit Orchestra and the Pep Band, and teaches Music Technology and AP Music Theory courses at Rocky River High School. He also teaches beginning Brass & Percussion and 3rd grade music at Kensington Intermediate School. Outside of his teaching duties, Mr. Komperda serves on the Board and is a co-Director of the Cleveland Youth Wind Symphony which brings together the best wind and percussion student musicians from around the Cleveland area. He also plays clarinet in the Cleveland Winds, and directs and plays in pit orchestras around the Cleveland area. Recently, he has performed in productions of Beauty and the Beast, Shrek the Musical, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods, You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown, and Young Frankenstein. Professionally, Mr. Komperda is a member of the Ohio Music Education Association (OMEA) and has presented and performed at the annual OMEA Professional Development Conference.

MRs. Kelly Baiera

Assistant Director

Mrs. Baiera is excited to continue her fifth year with the music department at Rocky River, teaching the middle school bands, middle school jazz band, high school concert band, and assisting with the high school marching band. This will be her eighth year teaching, having spent 3 years in the Akron Public School District, East High as the Director of Bands for 7-12th grade. Mrs. Baiera earned her degree from The University of Akron and is an active member of the Ohio Music Education Association and National Association for Music Education.
