About the RRHS Jazz Bands
 RRHS has 2 jazz bands that rehearse once or twice per week. The RRHS Jazz Ensemble rehearses each Tuesday and Thursday morning that school is in session. This group performs at regularly scheduled "home concerts" as well as travels as ambassadors of RRHS. The Friday Jazz Band rehearses every Friday morning that school is in session and performs at regularly scheduled home concerts. With two bands - one with a heavier schedule and one with a lighter schedule, more students have been able to find a home in a group that matches their level of experience and/or level of time commitment.About the RRHS Jazz Bands

JAZZ ENSEMBLE(S) AUDITIONS
Tuesday & Wednesday, September 29th & 30th
3:30-5:30 in the Band Room
(People with after-school activities have first choice on times 3:30-4:00)
Audition Material- Winds
Be prepared to play the excerpt on your audition sheet WITH THE BACKING TRACK. For “Watermelon Man” please play the melody as written twice through (you may choose top or bottom notes where there is divisi). *OPTIONAL* proceed to improvise a solo (using given scales or the F blues scale) for 32 bars (2 more times through). The countoff on the track is “1,  2,  1, 2, 3, 4” and then you play right away.
Plus….
Major scales (Concert Ab, Eb, Bb, F, C) and the F Blues Scale from memory, 2 octaves where appropriate.
Audition Material- Rhythm Section
Play the beginning to m. 45 of “Jericho”. As much as possible, try to play what is written, but where options are given (i.e. slashes or fills) play your own thing that fits within the suggestions and the style of the piece. All rhythm section instruments will play along with the recording except drums.
