Who are we?

We are the RoboPirates, FRC Team 7043, proudly from Rocky River, Ohio, representing Rocky River High School. We are a robotics team competing in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC). Our team begun its journey in 2018, participating in the 2018 FRC game: Power Up. Our team consists of high school students grades 9-12 who have a deep love for robotics and a passion for learning all things regarding STEM subjects. Beyond the sciences, we also have students who have heavy interest in marketing and design.

What is FIRST Robotics?

We compete in the High School level competition operated by FIRST. FIRST is an international youth organization, its name stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." FIRST has three other competitions outside of Robotics, including two Lego leagues and a tech competition, all with the end goal of inspiring students to be leaders in science and technology. FRC focuses on two core values during it's seasons: "Gracious Professionalism" and "Cooperation". Both of these values together work to give FRC a highly competitive and professional environment that is absent of trash talk and name calling.

The Teams

Each team works in unison to ensure that everything is done well and efficiently.

Mechanical Team

The mechanical team consists of people who put together the robot. From tightening screws to installing complex arms and lifts, they ensure that everything is correct. The mechanical team is the foundation for our entire team. Without this sub team, our robots would never come to existence. Essentially, the people on this team are the parents to our robots.

Electrical Team

The electrical team is in charge of wiring the entire robot. The mechanical and programming team rely on the electrical team to make sure the control system is wired properly. All wires must be properly grounded in order to reduce any "live" robot pieces. Without this team the robot would fail to function, they are the robot’s heart.

Programming Team

The programming team works around the clock to create code for the robot to maneuver, perform autonomous tasks, and to push the robot to the limit. The programming team consists of highly motivated and skilled programmers who work with the programming language Java. Their work is truly considered magical, they bring our robots to life. They act as the brain of the robot.

Shop/ Fabrication Team

The shop team works together to create the pieces and parts that form the robot. They work with other sub teams to make sure that the correct parts are made. They are in charge of listening to the design requirements made by the mechanical team. The shop team is also in charge of constructing mock field elements that are used for testing our robot before the competition. With their pieces, they are the body of the robot.

Marketing Team

The marketing team are the people we have to thank for this amazing website. Marketing team leaders are the ones responsible for managing our outreach in the community and working with sponsors to help fund our team. They are the unsung heroes we thank daily for making our lives easier in this digital world.
