Student Expectations for Remote Learning

Below are our expectations for students in each division during our Remote Learning days. We may need to add more expectations as we go along, and appreciate your flexibility.

Students are also encouraged to read the tips on the Preparing page, for a list of things you can do now to make sure you are ready for remote learning.

Lower School

Parents are encouraged to go over these guidelines with their student.

  • Parents should direct their student’s learning as much as possible. We recommend setting up a daily schedule and sticking to it.

  • Follow your classroom teacher’s guidelines.

  • Try to complete about five hours of work for each remote learning day.

  • Some of your learning activities will be on a computer or iPad. But not all of them! Remote learning does NOT mean screen-time all day. Listen to your parents when they ask you to take a break, or to work on something else for a while.

  • If something doesn’t work the first time, don’t give up!

  • Don’t forget to exercise and move around several times each day!

  • Contact your teacher if you have any trouble.

Middle School

Parents are encouraged to go over these guidelines with their student.

  • Check in every day by filling out this form.

  • Spend about five hours doing school-related work or activities each remote learning day.

  • Follow your teacher’s instructions.

  • Check FACTS (RenWeb) every day. That is where your teachers will be posting their work. Teachers may also post to another website such as Google Classroom.

  • Be polite and respectful in all of your online interactions. This is not the time to be silly or rude to one another, or to your teachers. While using chat rooms, video calls, Google Classroom, Flipgrid, or any other online tool, you are still expected to adhere to the core values of the school: Scholarship, Integrity, Respect, Community, and Compassion.

  • Stick to the deadlines and due dates your teacher gives you. If you need more time to complete something, let your teacher know. They will be flexible.
