Parents: In order to create the best experience possible, please refer to these guidelines regularly as Roycemore School conducts remote learning days.
* We appreciate your flexibility and patience as we begin this journey. As you know, this is an unprecedented time in our history. Though our faculty is working hard to create learning experiences for your students, we are all learning as well.
Please read the guidance on this page to see how you and your student can prepare for remote learning days.
We will need to take attendance each day. Please refer to this page for attendance procedures.
For the most part, students will be asked to complete remote learning tasks asynchronously, meaning they will not need to be done at a certain time of day. We understand that remote learning presents unique scheduling hardships for our families, so teachers have been instructed to be flexible with due dates and assignments. We understand if work cannot be completed during regular school hours.
That said, the state board of education currently requires that students spend 5 hours completing remote learning activities for the day to count as an e-learning day. Though the state is rapidly working on creating more flexibility in this area, we are suggesting that parents and students aim for about 5 hours of learning each day. This can include any of the activities listed anywhere on this website or that teachers recommend, including physical activity, fine arts, etc, and does not mean that the student needs to be online for 5 hours. Please help your students to take their time when doing remote learning assignments, and resist the temptation to “finish” everything in one sitting, especially for projects.
To help your student stay on track, we highly recommend creating a schedule together as a family. This page from Khan Academy has fantastic daily home learning schedules for each grade level. You may want to break the school day up in the same way your student's day is broken up while they're at school. For younger students, the classroom teacher can provide their daily schedule (here is an example from second grade). Older students can access their daily schedule via the FACTS Family Portal (RenWeb). Work with your student to create a schedule that works for the whole family.
For Middle and Upper School students, the best place to start is the FACTS Family Portal (also called ParentsWeb). This is where assignments for students in grades 5-12 are posted. Many teachers will also post work to Google Classroom or another learning management system.
You can access the Family Portal by visiting roycemoreschool.org/parentsweb.
The District Code is RS-IL.
If you need help with your username and/or password, contact Tanise Robnett.
For Lower School students, the classroom teacher will instruct you on the best place to start. This will most likely be a classroom website and/or Google Classroom. You are also encouraged to use our Extra Activities.
Roycemore teachers have been instructed to use this framework to design remote learning days. In short, teachers will be posting work for students to complete at home. Depending on the grade level, this may include:
Viewing videos that explain content - these could be created by teachers or may be from another source
Reading (from textbooks or other sources, or for pleasure)
Participating in text or video chat sessions
Completing written assignments or projects
Using online tools to create work (see our Teacher Resources page for some of the resources that may be used)
Collaborating with classmates using online tools
Completing simple science experiments
Writing or journaling
Physical education activities, such as playing outside
Practicing French or Spanish (here is a link to Mme. Michaelson's French website)
Please remember that students should aim to do learning activities for about five hours each day. We also encourage you to read our Student Expectations here.
