Roxbury's Visual Arts Program

The Visual Arts Program at Eisenhower Middle School and Roxbury High School offers many elective opportunities for students to pursue their creative interests. Courses focus on high level thinking skills, creativity, and problem solving; as well as the individual student, their ability, skill level, and interests.

Along with artistic thinking, we teach the creative process, conceptual skills, and research. Students at the high school level with a serious interest in pursuing art as a career have opportunities to explore the Fine Arts and Sculpture; three levels of Photography and four levels of Ceramics; as well as Computer Arts, graphic design, and yearbook production. ECHO, our high school's yearbook, has received numerous state awards for its excellence. An intensive AP Art Studio class is also offered to accomplished students who wish to earn college credit while a high school student. Artist in residence programs and portfolio development courses further expand the options for students in the visual arts. At the middle school, Art is taught as a cycle course; and through our 8th Grade Art Enrichment Program rising 8th grade students can apply for the opportunity to take our high school level Art One Visual Essentials course.

The visual arts experience available in our district empowers students to reach their fullest potential, artistically and intellectually. At the core of all of these excellent programs is the outstanding faculty which continues to provide superior educational experiences for all students.
