Overview of New Jersey's Interdistrict Public School Choice Program (www.state.nj.us/education/choice)

"New Jersey's Interdistrict Public School Choice Program enables approved choice districts to enroll K-12th grade students who do not reside within their districts without cost to their parents. The program increases educational opportunities for students and their families by providing students with school options outside of their district of residence."

"Many choice districts have established specialized and innovative programs and courses that focus on areas such as the arts, math and technology, and are open to students who meet the eligibility requirements of the special programs. Opening enrollment to students outside the district can bring in more students interested in taking advantage of these special programs and courses, allowing both the programs and students to grow and flourish."

Beginning with the 2014-2015 school year, Roxbury Township School District was approved to accept students from out of district for the fine and performing arts with educational opportunities for middle school and high school students:

  • Students who have attended their local public school for the entire prior academic year are eligible to apply for School Choice.

  • Parochial/private school students, home-schooled students, and students attending choice programs in other districts may be considered, depending upon space availability after eligible Tier 1 public school students have completed the application process.

  • Students who live within 20 miles of Roxbury Township School District can seek to obtain either transportation or aid-in-lieu from their resident district. Decisions about transportation are made solely by the resident district.

  • Parents are responsible for transporting students who live over 20 miles from Roxbury Township School District.

  • There are no tuition costs associated with School Choice.
