Career Technical Education (CTE) at Roland Hills High School gives students a chance to explore real-world skills while still in high school—setting them up for success whether they head straight into the workforce or on to college. The school offers several CTE pathways, from Business and Marketing to Engineering, Health Sciences, and Digital Media. Each pathway is designed to give students hands-on experience, industry-relevant knowledge, and opportunities to earn certifications that look great on a résumé or college application.
Students in these programs don’t just sit in classrooms—they work on projects, solve real problems, and often collaborate with local businesses or professionals. It’s learning that feels practical and purposeful, with a direct line to future careers.
Computer Information Technology is designed to give students a solid foundation in the digital skills that are essential in today’s academic and professional environments. This course introduces students to core computer applications and information technology concepts, blending hands-on practice with a broad understanding of how technology shapes the world around us. Students will develop practical skills in keyboarding and typing, ensuring they can work efficiently and accurately on any computer. The curriculum covers Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, giving students the ability to create documents, presentations, and manage data—skills that are valuable in nearly every field.
Students will explore how computers work, how information is stored and shared, and the ethical implications of the digital world. This course is also articulated with Mt. San Antonio College’s Computer Information Systems program. That means students who successfully complete the class can earn college credit, giving them a head start on their postsecondary education and a stronger résumé for future opportunities.
This isn’t your typical high school course—our CTE Accounting curriculum is designed to give you a head start, combining hands-on learning with college-level instruction. Through our special partnership with Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC), you’ll be earning both high school and college credits, opening doors to future opportunities in business, finance, and beyond. What makes this program unique? You’ll learn the fundamentals of accounting—think budgeting, financial reporting, payroll, and more—using the same tools and standards professionals use out in the field. Our co-accreditation with Mt. SAC means the classes you take here are recognized by both institutions, so you’re building your college transcript while still in high school. You’ll also have access to guest speakers, industry-standard software, and support from both high school and college instructors who genuinely want to see you thrive. Whether you’re thinking about a career in accounting, planning to study business in college, or just want to pick up some practical life skills, you’re in the right place. We encourage you to dive in, ask questions, and take full advantage of everything the program has to offer.
This course is designed for students who already have a strong foundation in accounting and are ready to push their understanding further. Over the semester, students will dive deep into advanced accounting concepts, explore the full power of Excel for financial analysis, and apply their skills in a hands-on forensic fraud simulation. The first part of the class sharpens students’ grasp of complex accounting topics—consolidations, partnerships, advanced financial instruments, and international standards. Students will tackle nuanced scenarios, learning not just how to record transactions, but how to interpret, analyze, and communicate the story behind the numbers.
Alongside the theory, students will develop advanced Excel skills tailored for accountants. This means mastering pivot tables, complex formulas, financial modeling, data visualization, and automation. By the midpoint of the course, students will be expected to build robust, dynamic spreadsheets that mirror real-world financial challenges. The course culminates in a forensic accounting simulation. Students are placed in the role of fraud investigators, combing through messy books, emails, and data sets to identify red flags and piece together what happened in a simulated case of corporate fraud. This capstone experience brings together everything learned—technical accounting, analytical rigor, Excel expertise, and professional skepticism.
By the end of the course, students will not only be prepared for the highest levels of accounting practice, but will also have the investigative mindset and technical skills needed to tackle fraud, advise organizations, and drive ethical financial decision-making.
