The goal of this project was for the students to save pennies using the arithmetic sequence. I learned that not only can the arithmetic sequence be used in math, it can also be used in real life.
Our school’s core value HONOR connected with my work because I showed ownership, and never giving up in this project.
I struggle with not having enough coins to put in my coin jar, but I overcame this challenge by not-so-secretly switching the coins out with dollar bills.
This penny project was to make a video about saving one more penny than we did the day before. This means on day 1 we would put in 1 penny, on day 2 we would put in 2 pennies, on day 3 we would put in 3 pennies, and so on. The goal was to review the arithmetic sequence and series, as well as learn how to save money to (in this case) be able to buy something for someone.
It is showing HONOR, to be honest, taking ownership, and never giving up during the whole project. We had to be honest and take ownership of when we needed help. We had to take ownership of our mistakes and fix things when necessary. We also have to take ownership of getting this project done by the deadline. We had to use never give up to drive ourselves to finish the whole project despite some challenges that there were.
The goal was to create a video portraying certain mathematical concepts, a process of saving money, presenting a gift to a family member, and reflecting on the experience. I learned many things in order to complete this project. I learned what arithmetic series are and the formula to find one. I also learned how to use a flash drive, which was necessary for me to complete this project.
At one point in the project I lost track of my savings. I had to go back and recount all the money in order to make sure that I got the correct sum of money by the end of the project. To make sure this didn’t happen again, I used a calendar and wrote down the savings for each day on it. That way I could cross the savings off by day.
This year I had to do a lot of video recordings of myself. I think I’ve become more confident on camera. I also think that I got good practice in public speaking from all these videos.
The year 2020 and 2021 have been difficult for all of us. Everyone (students, parents, teachers and families) has been impacted so much from the COVID 19 pandemic and distance learning. The purpose of this project is for my students to REFLECT on their RELATIONSHIP with their mom or someone special who has impacted their lives during this tough time. This project encourages my students to show appreciation and gratitude by creating a flower demonstrating their special qualities and presenting the flower when finished.
"The goal of this project was to use what we learned about dilations and apply it to a comic of our choice, in my case I chose garfield. We then applied a grid to the comic strip and used a scale factor to figure out how much we needed to enlarge it. My scale factor was 1:4, as in I had to enlarge it by 4 cm. Once I enlarged it I started drawing the comic square by square to form a comic. Once I finished drawing I colored the comic and wrote down the scale factor. After I finished my final project I learned how I could use scale factors and dilations to make my comic bigger.
I learned that my teacher was very understanding and very helpful/communicative when it came to any questions I had during the project. It was an enjoyable project :).
I think some ways I’ve grown through this past year is taking my school work more seriously and really pulling through with the goals I set for whatever semester I’m in."
"I discovered that I can try my best and ever part of work was worth it in the end. I discovered that never giving up and being honest with yourself, being aware of your work and doing it will lead you to success.
I learned that my teacher was watching over my work because everytime I did something wrong she told me what to fix.
The Honor values connected to my work because I showed Never giving up, Ownership, And honesty. I showed these because I was taking ownership of my work, I showed that I didn't give up even though I made mistakes along the way, and I showed honesty because I was being honest with myself of when I have to fix things and when not to.
I grew in the past years by knowing that doing the work that's assigned right away helps you get through with it but it's better to take your time to get what you want just right."
"The goal of the comic was to enlarge a comic strip without many changes to the comic. Along the way I learned how to find the scale factor of the comic and how to enlarge it.What I have discovered about myself as an individual throughout this work is that I'm much better at coloring than what I had thought but as a learner I have discovered that recreating an image to look the same is not as impossible as it seems."
"My goal was to make a pretty picture while still including math. I learned how math was able to help you enlarge images. At first I thought that this project was going to be really hard but it ended up being really easy, and all I had to do was find the scale factor. My scale factor was 4, which means that the image was enlarged x4.
Out of all of the HONOR statements I think the one that I have experienced the most is ̈Never giving up. ̈ The reason for this is because even when I felt like not doing an assignment because I was too tired I still did it and I didnt give up."
"The goal was to make a name tag and reflect it as a practice. Along the way I learned how to reflect points on a graph. I took ownership of my work and completed it on time."
"The project goal is to learn about ratios. I learned how to enlarge a drawing by using the grids. I have grown to understand more. Therefore, I cared about my grades and my progress."
