Grade Book Policy

Each subject will be averaged over a 9-week period. The average will be a combination of class work (70%) and tests (30%). Parents will have access to their student’s grades through the Home Access Center. You can find this through the parent resources tab on the Union Hill Website.

Class Work Corrections

Students who score below a 70% on any assignment will have an opportunity to make corrections to improve their grade. The original failing score will stay in the grade book until the corrected work is returned. Corrected work can receive a grade no higher than a 70%. It is the responsibility of the student to correct the work using red or blue pen and return it to their teacher in a timely manner.

Homework Folder

Everyday your child will bring home his/her homework folder. This folder contains a weekly homework agenda and reading log that students are responsible for filling out daily. The homework folder must be brought to school daily.

Homework Policy

Students are expected to complete their assigned homework and read at least 20 minutes nightly. Parents are responsible for initialing their child’s daily reading log to indicate students have completed their nightly assignments.

Lunch/Library Card

Each student is issued a plastic library card to be used for book check out as well as lunch charges. It is important that the card remain at school. If a card is lost there is a fee for replacement.

Thursday Folders

Each Thursday, your child will take home his/her Thursday Folder. It will contain graded assignments, school newsletters, and other information. Please remove, read, and review all papers in the folder. Many of the notes pertain to upcoming activities involving Union Hill and your child. Please sign and send back anything necessary. The Thursday Folder should be returned the following school day. Parents can also access updated information on our grade level website that can be found on the Union Hill website.

Absences

If your child is absent from school, please send a note of explanation and call the office the day of the absence. All homework/class assignments must be made up allowing one day for each day missed. It is important that your child attends school regularly in order to keep up with fourth grade content we are learning in class.

Snacks

Your child may bring a snack to school. We would like your child to make snack choices that are healthy. Some snack ideas: snack crackers, cheese, raisins, fruit, snack mix, granola/fruit bars, pretzels, and dry cereal. Your child is also allowed to bring a water bottle to drink throughout the day.
