RRISD ARC: 1st Six Weeks

First six weeks vocabulary

Objective MI1: The Purpose of Theatre Personal Narrative and Identity

Objective MI2: The Purpose of Theatre and exploration of Character

All theatre students performed scenes from different time periods and cultures. Reflecting on the scene they prepared, and those of their class mates, students will explore theatre and the exploration of identinty, creativity, and personal narrative.

Q1 Purpose of theatre: Each student has chosen a scene from various time periods and cultures. When you think of your scene, what emotion is evoked in the audience? What does this author through this scene think it means to be human? Why do we express this through the written word and performance?

Q2 Personal Narrative: Students have written their first monologue in a series or personal narrative work and character exploration. Theatre is a creation of and the telling of stories which organize and communicate life emotions and situations revealing the lens of a person, culture, and time.

MI3: The production process of audition and casting

Students are introduced to Michael Shurtleffs work: The guideposts as putting on your superpowers.

RRISD ARC: 2nd Six Weeks

2nd six weeks vocabulary

2nd Six Weeks Qualities of Voice Intonation, Volume, Pitch.

These objectives will weave through every unit of the school year. Each unit will focus on one vocal position and learning a neutral body position that can then be manipulated into various postures to reveal characterization on the stage. Students will incorporate qualities of voice and movement in "open scenes" where they create a dramatization demonstrating effective characterization through the expressions of voice and movement.


MI3: Focus in on the voice and movement as performing within a production.

MI1 & 2 objective: qualities of Movement including Proximity, Pace, Tempo, and Size

MI3 Objective: Production Process: Live Production

Students review the qualities of sound and movement by performing in ten minute class productions.
