About the Counselor
Hello! I am honored to be Spicewood's School Counselor this year, supervised by your previous counselor, Mrs. Kentopp. I am completing my internship for an M.A. in Professional Counseling at Texas State University this year, and I hold a Probationary Certificate in School Counseling. Before counseling, I taught elementary reading intervention for 3 years and taught English in Taiwan through the Fulbright Program. I also earned degrees from Eastman School of Music and Indiana University.
My counseling approach is strengths-based and collaborative. I see each student as capable, resourceful, and full of potential, and my role is to walk alongside them as they navigate challenges and discover what helps them thrive. I combine child-centered, solution-focused, CBT, and neurobiology-informed strategies in classroom lessons, small groups, and individual counseling to help students develop social, emotional, and academic skills. I'm committed to creating a warm, accepting space where students feel valued and safe to bring their full selves.
I am a 1.5-gen Cantonese American, and my cultural heritage is very important to me. 我会说中文 / 我識講廣東話!
I love playing viola, reading poetry, eating dim sum, being near water, and spending time with friends and family. I look forward to getting to know you and your family this year!
