About the Counselor
Greetings! I have been Spicewood's School Counselor since 2017. I am originally from Chicago, graduating from DePaul University before moving to Austin in 2010 to begin my teaching career. I taught Special Education for six years in Round Rock ISD. I graduated from Texas State University's Professional Counseling Program in 2017 with an M.A. in Professional Counseling. I am a Certified School Counselor (CSC), and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
My counseling framework combines child-centered, solution-focused, and CBT strategies; working through class lessons, small groups, and individual interventions to build up social, self-management, and academic skill sets that help students to function at their best in school (and beyond!). I have worked in IB schools since 2010, and I incorporate the IB Learner Profile Attributes and Approaches to Learning into my counseling curriculum, as well as work within each grade levels' Unit of Inquiry.
I live with my husband and two sons in a neighborhood adjacent to Spicewood. I love music, cooking (and eating food someone else makes me), reading, and getting outdoors. I believe children deserve our full attention and respect, and I strive to create a space where students feel heard, accepted, and valued. I look forward to getting to know you and your child this year!
